Valentines Day in Ottawa: Your Perfect Guide

If the beginning of the month is anything to go by, this Valentines day is going to be a chilly one in Ottawa – so we recommend you embrace it when making your romantic plans. Make the snow and ice part of your day rather than an obstacle, and the two of you will have a Valentines day to remember. Here’s what we suggest:

Linger over Brunch: Since Valentines day falls on a Saturday this year, it’s perfect for a long, late brunch – and that’s the meal Ottawa does best. Head to upscale Voro in Mile End, cozy Sparrow in the same neighborhood, or for something really special, splash out on Verses in the Old Port. We recommend you start with a mimosa – but just one, you have a long day ahead!

Fall head over heels: well, ideally try to stay upright on your skates at one of the great rinks around town. If you’re near the Plateau neighborhood, then you can skate the frozen lake at Parc LaFontaine, or if you’re brave enough to walk up Mont Royal (“the mountain” to locals) you’ll find a good skating spot at Beaver Lake. In the Old Port, wander east from the Science Centre and you’ll spot the rink on the frozen St Laurence river. Be sure to hold hands and try a spot of ice dancing for instant giggles.

Warm Up in the Water: Although it’s a winter wonderland, no one recommends being outside for too long mid-february – unless that is, you’re soaking in a hot, bubbling pool watching the snowflakes dissolve on your hot skin – win! Do just that at spa Bota Bota, a floating spa boat in the Old Port. Throw in a couples massage for good measure Or, if you prefer a more peaceful, indoor experience, nearby Spa Scandinave is just the ticket. It’s steamy, it’s relaxing and it’s romantic. The perfect Valentines day experience!

Dinner and Dancing: A dinner show is a cool combo bound to impress your date. On the 14th, you can choose between supper and live Motown hits at Rialto Hall, or Authentic Italian cuisine, accompanied by operatic arias and popular songs performed by the chef himself at the perfectly named PastaOpera.

After that, if’s down to you. Intimate drinks in a bar or a nightcap at your place – after a day like that, how can she say no…?!

Renting a romantic luxurious apartment is also a great idea, have a look HERE!
