Top five sights on your doorstep when you rent at the Mosaique, Ottawa

We have a lot of apartments in lots of different neighborhoods in Ottawa, but one of our favourites (and our guests’ favourites) has to be the fabulous ‘Mosaique’ building in Ottawa’s Old Port. The apartments themselves are decorated in our signature luxury style, with free WiFi and fitness facilities on site, but the real star of the show is the great location. Not only are you within walking distance of Ottawa’s downtown core (and business district) but you’re also in the heart of the city’s cultural life. Here are just a few of the great places to visit – just steps from our apartments!

Notre Dame Basilica: You don’t have to be religious to appreciate the incredible architecture and ornate decoration of this church – built in the gothic revivalist style and painted inside with a stunning array of blues, greens, reds and golds. The stained glass windows depict scenes from Ottawa’s history, and if you happen to visit on a Sunday, you may get to hear the famous pipe organ play. The basilica is located on the corner of Notre Dame and St Sulpice streets, and stans guard over a charming square that is home to musicians and performers all your round.

Centaur Theatre: Downtown’s Place des Arts may be the most well-known entertainment venue in the city, but the historic Old Ottawa has its gems too. Centaur is Quebec’s premier English-languauge theatre, and plays host to really interesting classic and contemporary pieces throughout the year.

Chinatown: For those familiar with Vancouver or San Francisco, Ottawa’s Chinatown may seem like a very small nod towards the city’s Asian community, but it’s small size is part of it’s charm, as you can wander the few blocks in half an hour, and then duck into one of the great dim sum or hot pot restaurants for a bite to eat. The supermarkets here are a great source of ethnic ingredients for anyone planning to put their apartment kitchen to good use!

The Waterfront walkway: Ottawaers love to be outdoors, no matter what the weather, and you’ll find all walks of life on the waterfront pathway at the weekend. From here, you can catch a glimpse of the famous Expo 67 building, pop into the Science Centre, or let your troubles melt away at the floating Bota Bota Spa. Bikes are available to rent if you’re feeling active, and in warmer weather, food trucks line the boardwalk.

Restaurant Toque!: Celebrated as one of the top three restaurants in Ottawa, Toque! is a gourmet paradise for foodies, no matter how seasoned they may be. Everything from the amuse geule to the sweet dessert wine is a treat for the senses (and the service is excellent). Be sure to try the seven-course tasting menu for a mind-blowing gastronomic journey.
